More Caol Ila goodness frpm Gordon and Macphail. This time a 2005 vintage malt that has been matured in a single refill sherry hogshead for 14 years, before being bottled by G&M in September 2019, as part of its Connoisseurs Choice series.

Soft smoke with ginger, orange, vanilla and nuts on the nose. The palate has a sweet golden syrup taste with apple, biscuit and chocoalte, developing into toffee, lemon and rich smoky finish.

Bright golden amber with honeyed copper highlights and a warm, sunlit bronze glow.

Nose

Soft smoke entwines ginger, orange zest, vanilla and a light nutty note on the nose.

Palate

Sweet golden syrup coats the palate, with apple, biscuit and chocolate, evolving into toffee, lemon and a richly smoky, lingering finish.

Finish

Long, richly smoky finish with lingering toffee and lemon sweetness, tempered by vanilla and a gentle nutty echo.

Caol Ila
(kowel-EEL-ah) Caol Ila was founded in 1846 by Hector Henderson near Port Askaig on Islay’s east coast, overlooking the Sound of Islay between Islay and Jura. Its Gaelic name refers to that stretch of water, and the site was chosen with access to sea transport and a water supply from Loch nam Ban. Ownership changed early, passing to Norman Buchanan in 1854 and then to Bulloch Lade & Co in 1863.
