Bivrost Helheim Single Malt Whisky is handcrafted at the world’s northernmost distillery in Arctic Norway, at 69 °N. The malt is made from Nordic barley, distilled in our hi-tech still and diluted with glacial meltwater. This is a fusion of modern distilling technology and tradition. The Whisky has been stored in carefully selected Crocodile charred Bourbon and Ex Islay casks. It was allowed to mature in an old, underground NATO storage, as well as a modern Viking longhouse. The temperature variations are vast, with an average, yearly temperature of only 0,6 °C.

Overall: A good expression of crocodile charred and Ex Islay casks with a hint of the arctic and the signature spirit.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep amber with burnished copper highlights and a soft golden glow.

Nose

Clean, inviting nose with a sturdy oak backbone, delicate notes of biscuit and spice, and a soft vanilla sweetness.

Palate

Mouth-filling, with a bold barrel-driven backbone from crocodile-charred bourbon and Ex-Islay casks. Spices unfold across the tongue, rounded with caramel and a touch of vanilla, then a gentle, smoky echo that lingers into a warm, oak-forward finish.

Finish

Pleasant peat lingers into a refined finish, with hints of tobacco and biscuit. A gentle warmth persists, carried by caramel and vanilla from the crocodile-charred bourbon and Ex-Islay cask influence, leaving an Arctic-spun, softly smoky afterglow.

Bivrost
Bivrost is produced by Aurora Spirit Distillery in Arctic Lyngen, northern Norway, at 69° north within the Arctic Circle. Construction began in January 2016, the distillery opened later that year, and its first spirits were gin, vodka and clear aquavit under the Bivrost name. The name comes from Old Norse and refers to the Northern Lights, imagined as a bridge between heaven and earth.
