About Bivrost
Bivrost is produced by Aurora Spirit Distillery in Arctic Lyngen, northern Norway, at 69° north within the Arctic Circle. Construction began in January 2016, the distillery opened later that year, and its first spirits were gin, vodka and clear aquavit under the Bivrost name. The name comes from Old Norse and refers to the Northern Lights, imagined as a bridge between heaven and earth.
The distillery is set beside the Lyngen Fjord beneath the Lyngen Alps and is widely described as the world’s northernmost whisky distillery. Production uses Arctic ingredients including local botanicals, Nordic barley and glacier water from the Lyngen Alps, with whisky matured in a former NATO bunker and later in the site’s Viking Warehouse.
Bivrost now covers whisky, gin, aquavit, vodka and other Arctic spirits. Its whisky releases have included the Nine Worlds of Norse Mythology series and Yggdrasil, the distillery’s first standard whisky bottling, with maturation using casks such as bourbon, sherry, Sauternes, Madeira and rum.
