Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep mahogany with coppery-amber glow and a ruby-tinged edge, rich and inviting.
Nose
Powerful maritime peat and smoke, with iodine-brine and a subtle medicinal edge. Sherry‑toned dark fruit—plum, fig, raisin—meets cocoa, waxy vanilla and polished oak. Leather and tobacco add depth, while a coastal saltiness hints at sea air, yielding a refined, long, smoky finish.
Palate
Powerful yet refined, this 18-year Port Ellen unfurls peat smoke, sea-salt tang and a whisper of sherry. Dark fruit—plum, fig, raisin—coats the palate, with cocoa and espresso mid-palate and a kiss of vanilla and clove. The finish is long and smoky, lace of maritime notes and oak sweetness lingering in a stately, lasting glow.
Finish
Phenomenally long, a coastal peat smoke gradually softens into rich sherry sweetness—dried fig and raisin, cocoa and espresso—drifting into warm spice and toasted oak as the glow lingers.
