Tasting Notes
Colour
Rich burnished amber with mahogany depths and coppery highlights.
Nose
Rich sherried peat aromas rise in a velvet plume: dark raisin and fig mingle with cocoa, espresso and toasted oak. Vanilla, cinnamon and clove spice glisten beside the sweetness of toffee and a hint of almond. A maritime whisper of sea air and iodine threads through, amplifying the Islay character while the cask-strength intensity anchors the aroma in bold, lingering warmth.
Palate
Silky and colossal, this Port Ellen coats the palate with oiliness and unrestrained intensity. Dark fruit compote—raisin, fig, plum—drifts through sherry sweetness that softens the peat’s edge. Cocoa, toffee, leather and spice weave in from the high-ABV warmth, while vanilla lingers in the background. The finish is long, smoky, and peppery, with a refined nutty sweetness lingering into the afterglow.
Finish
Long, velvet finish of sherried richness and peat smoke, with a bright, spicy warmth. Dark fruit, cocoa, sea salt and leather unfold, giving way to black tea tannins and oak. The 62.2% ABV lends a warming, lingering breath that coats the palate, ending in a refined, smoky-sweet echo.
