A very rare Port Ellen bottling, as part of the Cadenhead's Authentic cask strength series. Distilled in 1980, just 3 years before the closure of the distillery and matured in a bourbon hogshead for 16 years. This is bottled at powerful 63% abv. Definitely an Islay malt for the purists this one.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep burnished amber with copper-gold highlights and a warm mahogany-tinged edge.
Nose
Potent peat and maritime smoke fill the nose, with saline iodine, ash and coastal mineral. Beneath, vanilla, honeyed toffee and polished oak emerge, touched by citrus zest. A bold, pristine Islay aroma that speaks to its 16 years in a bourbon hogshead.
Palate
Powerful, mouth-coating peat and brine fuse with vanilla and oak from the bourbon cask. Bold smoke coats the palate with iodine, salt, and maritime herbs, tempered by dark chocolate and espresso hints. At 63% ABV the warmth persists, delivering peppery spice and a long, peat-kissed finish.
Finish
Long, maritime finish of rich peat and iodine, with sea-salt brine lingering on the tongue. Vanilla sweetness and warm bourbon oak rise, followed by a persistent, peppery smoke that lingers, echoing Islay's coastal winds.
