Port Charlotte Islay Barley Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky 8 Year Old · 2013 Vintage
Out of stock
Port Charlotte Islay Barley 2013 was distilled from barley grown on Islay, then bottled in 2021 at 8 years old and 50% ABV. That local barley focus is a big part of the appeal here, as it ties the whisky even more closely to Bruichladdich’s wider idea of terroir, with the smoky Port Charlotte spirit rooted not just in Islay production, but in Islay-grown grain as well.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber-gold with coppery highlights, a sunlit, honeyed glow.
Nose
Delicate florals of lily and geranium rise with warm orange zest, framed by earthy peat smoke. Banoffee biscuit and malt-forward sweetness drift behind the peat, revealing a malty, fruity core—cherry, coconut, apricot and melon—balanced by the kiss of oak and subtle phenolics.
Palate
On the palate, salinity greets bright fruit as light peat smoke threads through warm oak. Almond notes mingle with coconut, caramel, vanilla and muscovado sugar, lending creamy complexity from careful barrel aging. The peat remains balanced, never overpowering, yielding a gentle yet immense depth of flavour where fruit, smoke and sweetness fuse into a long, inviting finish.
Finish
A harmonious finish where smoke, fruit, oak and florals fuse in a soft, creamy texture. Melon, peach and cherry drift through, then fade to dry peat embers in the hearth.
