Cask Strength Distillery Bottling

The cask exploration series showcases the influence of wood on heavily peated spirit; this particular expression was distilled at Port Charlotte in 2009. The Whisky was matured in a combination of French and American oak, with an additional 2 year finishing period in Marsala casks. This limited release was bottled at cask strength, maintaining its soft and fruity character.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep amber-gold with warm copper reflections and a touch of mahogany at the edges.

Nose

Cloves and orange open the nose, with rose petals, toasted oak and a biting peat smoke. Ripe peach and hints of apricot emerge.

Palate

Velvet on the palate, a gentle warmth that yields to a subtle dryness from French oak. Fruit and smoke fuse with tar, peach, poached pear and red apples, delivering a balanced, mouth-watering harmony.

Finish

Tender and warming, the finish pairs delicate peach with peat smoke, Marsala sweetness giving a Christmas cake whisper. As the smoke eases, toasted oak reveals nutty vanilla, leaving a softly lingering fruit-spice glow.

Port Charlotte
(Port SHAR-lot) Port Charlotte is the name Bruichladdich uses for its heavily peated Islay single malt, produced at Bruichladdich Distillery but named after the nearby silent Port Charlotte distillery, later known as Lochindaal, which first ran in 1829 and closed in 1929. Bruichladdich began distilling Port Charlotte spirit in 2001 after the distillery’s revival, and the first release, PC5, followed in 2006.
