Tasting Notes

Nose

Coastal peat and iodine lift the nose, brushed with sea-salt brine and smoked malt. Vanilla and caramel ride a toasted oak backbone, while citrus zest and almond keep it bright. Subtle leather, espresso and cocoa unfold with time, revealing decades of maturation and the Yoichi legacy in a single, multilayered aroma.

Palate

Powerful yet elegant, the palate unfolds with maritime peat and cocoa-dusted smoke, gliding into toffee, vanilla, and dark fruit. Briny sea spray and black pepper sharpen the sweetness, while oak adds a polished, silky texture. A long, saline finish lingers with smoke, citrus rind, and caramelized pear.

Nikka Yoichi
(YOH-ee-chee) Yoichi was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka Whisky, on the coast of Hokkaido. Taketsuru had studied whisky-making in Scotland and chose Yoichi for its cool climate, clean air and coastal setting, seeing it as well suited to the robust style of malt whisky he wanted to make. Nikka’s predecessor, Dai Nippon Kaju, was established in July 1934, with construction of Yoichi completed in October of the same year.
