In a career spanning seven decades, Sir Quentin Blake has illustrated over 300 books including classic works by Roald Dahl such as The BFG, Matilda, and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. He rarely produces any commercial illustration and his work is highly collectable.
The Second Witch is one of four smoky whiskies in The Witches series. Distilled at Laphroaig, this single malt has enjoyed 26 year maturing in bourbon and sherry oak.
Notes about the Second Witch from Oliver Chilton of Elixer Distillers:
“Our Second Witch hails from Islay’s south coast, and encapsulates all the medicinal quality which this iconic malt is known for. The marriage between charcoal smoke, rich vanilla and brooding dark dried fruit speaks to the marriage of both bourbon and sherry casks and the wonderful darkness you can find from the long maturation of Islay’s traditional medicine.”.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with copper-gold highlights and a mahogany edge.
Nose
Medicinal peat smoke rises from the glass, braided with charcoal and coastal iodine. Vanilla from long-bourbon casks mingles with brooding dark dried fruit and a delicate sherry lift, hinting at chocolatey depths carried on Islay’s maritime breeze.
Palate
The palate reveals a lush, medicinal peat smoke, woven with vanilla and treacle. Dark dried fruits—raisin, fig, date—mingle with rich oak and sherry sweetness, touched by cocoa and charcoal. A briny, coastal edge lends balance, leading to a long, velvety finish of smoke, iodine and refined sweetness.
Finish
Long, smoky finish of medicinal peat, charcoal notes and warming vanilla, etched with dark dried fruit. Bourbon- and sherry-driven oak lingers, delivering a resonant, resinous warmth that slowly fades to a soft, enduring ember.
