Released in 2020, this Kilkerran 16 Year Old is part of the regular annual releases from Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown. The whisky was matured in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks and bottled at 46% ABV, a maturation style that balances bright fruit and vanilla sweetness with richer sherried depth.
Glengyle Distillery was reopened in 2004 by J&A Mitchell, the same family behind Springbank, bringing whisky production back to Campbeltown after many decades of decline. The distillery produces Kilkerran using traditional methods and lightly peated malt, creating a style that combines gentle smoke, coastal character and rich malt complexity.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Golden amber with a sunlit honey glow and coppery edges.
Nose
Delicate at first, the nose unfolds with herbal and citrus brightness before revealing brighter, zestier notes of orange peel and tart lemon meringue pie. A creamy, nutty core develops with a hint of tropical pineapple, and a fleeting coastal brine reminds of Campbeltown.
Palate
Layers of cereal and malt unfold with soft dry peat, herbal brightness, black pepper and hints of sandalwood and beeswax. Bourbon maturation carries a fragrant aniseed note that threads through the spirit, lending a waxy texture to the dram and a poised, lightly saline finish.
Finish
Dry, ashy peat smoke lingers with a coastal brine that clings. Not overly sweet from the bourbon, the finish remains bright and complex, with fragrant, grassy notes and a gentle peat warmth that softly fades.
