London Edition No.1 is an exciting official bottling from Highland Park distillery, which was originally founded in 1798 by Magnus Eunson, a descendant of the original Viking settlers.
Highland Park Whisky contains more than a whiff of peat...Orcadian peat which is composed entirely of sphagnum moss and heather. The result is a different aromatic spectrum to Islay malts, as it is lightly smoky, but significantly more fragrant… heathery even.
The peat is burned in the distillery’s own kiln and the resulting heavily smoky malt makes up 20% of the barley used for each mash. The remainder, unpeated, comes from the Mainland. The other signature of Highland Park comes later in the process with maturation. The regime has been 100% Sherry casks since 2004, with a mix of European and American oak (as well as refill) being used. These add a layer of richness to the lightly smoky, fragrant and fruity character. London Edition No.1 is an 18 year old, cask strength, bottled at 58.8% and is non-chill filtered.
TASTING NOTES:
Fruity, sweet and spicy. Opening aromas of fresh-out-of-the-oven vanilla sponge cake, juicy Galia melon dusted with nutmeg, and light peat smoke make way for intriguing notes of pears poached with aniseed, fragrant cedar wood and floral peat smoke. Sweet, woody and light at the finish, this superb whisky's light, golden tones are driven, entirely naturally, by the cask it has matured in.
