Wolfburn’s No. 177 Small Batch Release #8 was bottled in 2023 at 46% ABV and combines spirit matured in first-fill ex-bourbon hogsheads with whisky aged in first-fill Caribbean rum barrels. With an outturn of 4,900 bottles, it sits on the more characterful side of the distillery’s style, using the rum casks to add extra sweetness and depth without losing Wolfburn’s easy-drinking Highland profile.
That combination works especially well here, with the bourbon casks bringing vanilla and structure while the rum casks add molasses richness, soft fruit and a slightly more decadent edge. It gives the whisky a rounder, fuller style than a straightforward bourbon-matured release, while still keeping things balanced and approachable.

Deep amber with copper-gold highlights and a honeyed glow, hinting at caramel, vanilla and molasses.
Nose
Roasted figs and prunes rise with candied ginger, followed by depth of plum sauce and toffee. Hints of marzipan and sultanas weave through the aroma, offering lush, fruit-forward sweetness with a caramel-soft edge.
Palate
Rum influence shines through with molasses overtones, layers of sweetness unfurling as fruit and honey notes rise, beautifully bound by silky oak tannins.
Finish
A long, sticky finish of molasses-soaked fruit and honey lingers, with silky oak tannins softly rounding the sweetness into a decadent, velvety warmth that invites another sip.
