Every year since 2001, Diageo have released a series of Special Releases featuring rare, limited edition whiskies from some of Scotland’s finest distilleries. The 2021 Special Releases are the 20th set in this highly collectable series, and includes 8 Single Malt whiskies, bottled at cask strength, and released in limited quantities. The 2021 series has been titled “Legends Untold” and features striking illustrations and design work from digital illustrator Ken Taylor.
The untamed spirit of youthful Talisker shines through in this gloriously maritime whisky. Brine, seaweed, sea spray, iodine and smoked fish are present on the nose, with cracked black pepper and bonfire smoke. The smoke is more pronounced than in many Taliskers, and persists on the long and warming finish.

Colour
Deep burnished amber with coppery highlights and a honey-gold glow.
Nose
Bracing maritime notes of brine and sea spray mingle with seaweed and iodine, a whisper of smoked fish beneath. Cracked black pepper threads through, while bonfire smoke blurs the edges, hinting at a bold, smoky Talisker character.
Palate
On the palate, maritime intensity dominates: briny salt, iodine and seaweed mingle with smoked fish, while cracked black pepper provides a keen bite. Ember-smoke and high-strength warmth drive a long, mineral coastal finish, lingering with sea salt and smoke.
Finish
Long and warming, the finish sustains a maritime smoke that lingers well beyond the last sip. Sea salt, iodine and a peppery ember persist, fading to a coastal, bonfire-warm glow.
