Talisker Expedition Oak Series - Glacial Edge Single Malt Scotch Whisky 45 Year Old
In stock
This distillery’s first-ever release of a 45-year-old Single Malt Scotch whisky, aged for over four decades and then finished in ice-fractured casks. This is the finale to an adventurous series of wild-whisky experiments - the third and last of the Xpedition Oak Series, a collection of rare, high-aged Single Malt whiskies.
Twelve heavily charred American Oak casks were taken on a Glacial Voyage into Canadian ice fields and exposed to sub-zero temperatures and raw, biting Arctic winds. The increased surface area available for the whisky to interact with the wood, during the finishing period, enabled the whisky to travel deeper into the casks and obtain spicier & sweeter aromas from the American Oak ex Bourbon barrels, to unearths new, resilient depths of this distilleries character.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with copper-gold sheen and a burnished mahogany glow.
Nose
Rich, dry and mellow, with a subtle peppery prickle. Maritime notes of seaweed and iodine mingle with glacial minerals—slaked lime and salt crystals. Beneath, dried fruits and creamy vanilla add sweetness and depth. Light smoke threads the background, with sandalwood. A drop of water releases almond toffee; the other aromas persist, joined by a hint of hemp rope.
Palate
Oil-smooth and mouth-filling; the taste begins toffee-sweet, then becomes mouth-watering salty and increasingly peppery, with a striking intensity and a fine chili warmth. A dash of water integrates these flavors, revealing salted-toffee and salted caramel notes as pepper eases slightly.
Finish
Very long, with a glorious chili pepper bite and a trace of candle-wax. The aftertaste deepens as saltiness and pepper persist. With water, the finish grows saltier and pepper eases, leaving a faint scented smoke.
