Strathisla 1985 35 year old by independent bottler Gordon & Macphail is a fantastic whisky to add to your collection. This Speysider was distilled back in 1985, and matured for 35 years in a refill bourbon barrel before being bottled at spectacular 57.8% abv. It is a limited expression of 104 bottles in a hand-blown crystal decanter, presented in a wooden box.

Nose
Vibrant, sculpted aromas of creamy vanilla and nutty oak give way to sun-warmed orchard fruit—ripe pear and green apple—lifted by orange zest and honey. Subtle spice (cinnamon, ginger) threads through polished barley, with delicate waxy almond notes and a whisper of vanilla-soaked oak from the refill bourbon cask.
Palate
Powerful yet refined, this Strathisla delivers a velvety palate of vanilla, caramel and toasted oak from the refill bourbon, lifted by sweet malt and orchard fruit with a kiss of citrus. Mid-palate spice—nutmeg and white pepper—adds warmth, leading to a long, warming finish that lingers with the whisky’s generous ABV.
Finish
Long, warming finish of vanilla and caramel, lifted by citrus zest and soft spice. Subtle oak tannins linger, imprinting a silky malt sweetness that slowly fades to a clean, honeyed glow.
