About Strathisla
(Strath-IS-la) Strathisla was founded in Keith in 1786 by George Taylor and Alexander Milne, originally under the name Milltown. It is widely regarded as the oldest working distillery in the Scottish Highlands, and Chivas Brothers bought it in 1950, making Strathisla the home distillery and signature malt at the centre of Chivas Regal.
Strathisla is built around traditional Speyside production, with water drawn from Broomhill Spring, wooden washbacks and short-necked stills that help create the rich, full-bodied character associated with the distillery. Although Strathisla is bottled as a single malt in its own right, much of its importance comes from the role it plays in Chivas Regal, where it remains the key malt running through the blend.
