Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep amber-gold with coppery highlights and a mahogany undertone.

Nose

Dark chocolate and roasted coffee lead the nose, supported by toasted malt, toffee and vanilla. Dried dark fruit lingers beneath a cacao‑tinted oak lift, with a subtle spice that reflects the stout finish.

Palate

Full-bodied and mouth-coating, Dirty Bastard unfurls roasted coffee, dark chocolate and charred cocoa nibs, layered with prune and fig sweetness. Caramel and vanilla from the stout finish mingle with a warm spice, delivering a long, velvety fade with a subtle smoky edge.

Finish

Long, warming finish that coats the palate with roasted malt, espresso and dark chocolate. Cocoa nibs mingle with vanilla caramel, while toasted oak and a whisper of dark fruit linger. The stout cask adds a creamy, cocoa-dusted sweetness and a subtle, smoky spice that slowly fades to a refined, lingering warmth.

Stauning was founded in 2005 on Denmark’s west coast by nine friends from outside the drinks industry, who began with two small pot stills in an old butcher’s shop in the village of Stauning. A major step followed in 2018, when the distillery opened its purpose-built new site, reflecting how far the project had grown from its early experimental beginnings.
