Ah.... the latest batch of the always excellent Springbank 12 Year Old Cask strength release. Quite arguably one of the best value whiskies on the planet.
Now interestingly for this 2019, release there has been a slight shift in the percentages for cask maturation. Traditionally it's been a 70%/30% split between sherry casks and bourbon casks, this release sees it at 50% for both. Bottled at 54.8% abv.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber-gold with copper highlights and a warm mahogany core, a sunlit chestnut glow.
Nose
Old fir trees and pine needles open the nose, like a Christmas forest. Werther’s Original sweetness blends with digestive biscuits, while heather and honey add a soft warmth. A coastal resin lingers, hinting at Springbank’s maritime malt.
Palate
Rich and malty on the palate, unveiling milk chocolate, honey, crème brûlée and caramel shortcake. Sandalwood shavings lend elegance as Springbank’s coastal signature emerges—sea-salt and brine weaving through the sweetness for a lively, maritime finish.
Finish
Bright citrus finish with lemon zest and orange peel notes, a delicate whisper of ginger lingering on the palate.
