Ah.... the latest batch of the always excellent Springbank 12 Year Old Cask strength release. Quite arguably one of the best value whiskies on the planet.

Now interestingly for this 2019, release there has been a slight shift in the percentages for cask maturation. Traditionally it's been a 70%/30% split between sherry casks and bourbon casks, this release sees it at 50% for both. Bottled at 54.8% abv.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Old fir trees, pine needles.Just like when your cleaning up all the pine needles from your Christmas tree.  Werther's original sweets, digestive biscuits, heather and honey.

Palate

Rich and malty; milk chocolate, honey, creme brulee, caramel shortcake.  Then sandalwood shavings with typical Springbank coastal notes of seasalt and brine.

Finish

Fruit notes with of lemon zest, orange and hints of ginger.

Springbank
(SPRING-bank) The 14th distillery to be built in the region of Campbeltown, Springbank is still owned by the Mitchell family, who also own the Glengyle distillery in the same region. Springbank produces three different styles of Single Malt; Hazelburn (triple distilled and non peaty) Longrow (twice distilled and heavy peat of 50-55ppm) and Springbank itself (two and a half times distilled and peated to 12-15ppm). Springbank is also one of the few distilleries that malt their own barley and bottle on site.
