The highly anticipated 5th (and final?) release in Springbank's Local Barley series. Lauded for being the only distillery to still malt 100% of their barley on site, Springbank's Local Barley series have been much sought after. This year the barley type is Optic and was grown at High Cattadale Farm. Matured in a combination of Bourbon (77%) Sherry (20%) and Port (3%) casks.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Sweet and slightly spicy with hints of honey, demerara sugar, cinnamon and vanilla. Light peat smoke and a dusty characteristic reminiscent of freshly milled barley.

Palate

Tropical and soft fruit sweetness. Ripe pineapple, mango and juicy peaches are complimented by a building peat smoke. Green tea and a coppery tone follow.

Finish

Creamy, buttery mouthfeel with light integrated peat smoke and a coastal salty influence.

(SPRING-bank) The 14th distillery to be built in the region of Campbeltown, Springbank is still owned by the Mitchell family, who also own the Glengyle distillery in the same region. Springbank produces three different styles of Single Malt; Hazelburn (triple distilled and non peaty) Longrow (twice distilled and heavy peat of 50-55ppm) and Springbank itself (two and a half times distilled and peated to 12-15ppm). Springbank is also one of the few distilleries that malt their own barley and bottle on site.
