Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep, burnished amber with coppery highlights and a touch of mahogany.
Nose
Sea-salted peat smoke fills the air, edged with iodine and brine. Dark fruit sweetness—plums and a whisper of orange zest—drifts through rich sherry notes, while toasted oak, leather and a subtle tar lead to a refined, coastal finish. A powerful yet elegant aroma that hints at Port Ellen’s legendary intensity.
Palate
Velvety, full-bodied, and intensely peated, with maritime peat smoke intertwined with rich, old sherry fruits. Layers of dried fig, plum, and dark chocolate mingle with espresso and toffee. A touch of iodine and sea salt adds briny edge, while rising spices—nutmeg, cloves—ignite a warming, cinnamon-laden finish. The mouthfeel is velvety and oily, lingering with ember-like smoke and a long, balanced fade.
Finish
Long, coastal peat lingers, slowly giving way to rich sherry sweetness—dark chocolate, dried fruit and a hint of sea salt fading into a warm, persistent finish.
