Port Ellen (silent) Gordon & MacPhail Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (35cl) 15 Year Old · 1980 Vintage
Out of stock
A superb example of Port Ellen here. Bottled at the eye watering strength of 63.6% and bottled as a 15 year old. So rare to see a younger example of Port Ellen available, much more in keeping with how the distillery bottled it's whiskies whilst in operation. This is a fine example of what Port Ellen was producing pre closure compared to the understandably, heavily aged releases of today. A true time piece of a whisky this one.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Dark amber with mahogany depth and a warm coppery halo, touched by honey-gold reflections.
Nose
Raw maritime peat dominates: smoky notes, iodine, and sea-salt brine swirl with tar and lacquered wood. Subtle dried fruit and a touch of sherry sweetness peek through, carried by a fierce, high-strength warmth. A quintessential Port Ellen nose, taut, coastal, and time-stamped by its cask-strength vigor.
Palate
Powerful peat and coastal brine cloak the palate with an oily, viscous mouthfeel. Dried fig and prune join dark chocolate, espresso and orange zest; clove and black pepper sting beneath a warming, high-alcohol glow. Sherry-edged oak deepens the fruit and smoke, delivering a long, maritime finish of coal, iodine and refined heat.
Finish
Powerful, smoke-kissed with a marine edge, the finish lingers like a slow sea breeze. Peat, iodine and cracked pepper deepen into dark chocolate, dried fruit, and a whisper of sherry-soaked oak that coats the palate and fades to a warm, resinous glow.
