Mortlach Distiller's Dram Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky 16 Year Old
In stock
Inspired by the illustrious original that was made for only a fortunate few. For 70 years Mortlach was the best kept secret in the world of whisky. From 1923 until 1992 our robust and complex whisky was used as the cornerstone of some of the 20th Century’s most iconic Scotch Whisky Blends. Even the distillery workers were only able to taste the fruits of their labours layered amongst other whiskies of Scotland.
However, at the beginning of the 1990’s Mortlach’s fate changed course forever. We decided it was time to unleash “The Beast of Dufftown” and release a 16 year old so a fortunate few, including our distillery workers, could enjoy Mortlach unadulterated and at its most elegant.
This single malt Scotch Whisky is inspired by the iconic and rewarding first bottling of the 16 year old released in 1992. It has been matured in only Sherry casks to impart rich, fruity and fragrant notes atop the beasty complexity synonymous with Mortlach.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep copper-amber with a sunlit ruby-gold glow, edged in mahogany.
Nose
Sherry-soaked richness invites with prune and fig, ripened dark cherries, and blackberry. Becomes velvety toffee, cocoa, and orange zest, braided with cinnamon and clove. A touch of toasted oak and leather adds depth, revealing Mortlach’s beastly, elegant complexity.
Palate
Silky, full-bodied and richly sherried on the palate. Ripe dark fruit—fig, raisin, date, plum—marries with chocolatey cocoa and a touch of caramel. Spices bloom softly—cinnamon, clove, nutmeg—beneath toasted oak and a subtle roast. The texture is lush and velvety, finishing long with lingering fruit and warm spice.
Finish
Long, luxurious finish with sherry-soaked fruit—raisin, fig and orange peel—emerging into cocoa, toasted spice and gentle, velvety oak. The sweetness lingers, carried by warmth and a fragrant, luxurious depth that persists on the palate.
