"Instantly right up in your face, with hot, peppered tangarine. After the initial hit,the peat surfaces and becomes more noticeable. As the dram calms a little in the glass, sweetness appears with gingerbread. Not a subtle whisky, but very enjoyable nonetheless."
Longrow is a peated whisky produced at the Springbank distillery.
This particular expression has been matured for 5.5 years in bourbon casks then 1.5 years finishing in Barolo wine casks(from the legendary Gaja winery) before finally being bottled at cask strength.
Springbank got into a bit of trouble for specifying which winery provided the Barolo casks and makes this even more collectable.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber-gold with coppery highlights and a warm, tawny mahogany sheen.
Nose
An audacious opening of hot peppered tangerine, sharpened by coastal peat smoke. As it rests, the peat recedes slightly and a honeyed, gingerbread sweet spice lingers, hinting at the Barolo cask influence and the whisky’s rich, layered character.
Palate
Bold, hot peppered tangerine greets the palate, peat smoke building into a smoky, coastal edge. As it settles, gingerbread sweetness emerges, complemented by wine-kissed depth from the Barolo finish. At cask strength, it’s full-bodied and warming, coating with spiced fruit and leaving a lingering, smoky finish.
Finish
Warm, lingering finish with peat and pepper giving way to citrus zest and gingerbread spice. The smoke remains long, carried by a subtle Barolo-cask fruitiness that sweetens the swallow before fading into a smoky, mouth-coating fade.
