This is the second release in Kyrö’s Sauna Stories series: a 100% malted rye Finnish whisky aged in new American oak and apricot brandy casks that were matured inside a sauna.
The concept nods to the brand’s origins, as Kyrö’s founders first dreamed up the distillery while sitting in a sauna. It’s also an intriguing maturation experiment: the custom-built barrel sauna creates an unusually hot, humid environment that causes the wood’s pores to open and “sweat”, intensifying its interaction with the whisky and drawing more volatile compounds from the spirit.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Golden amber with sunlit honey tones and a coppery glow.
Nose
Bright apricot, apricot brandy and ripe orchard fruit rise from the glass, mingling with vanilla and toasted new American oak. A warm rye-spice core—cinnamon, clove—with sauna-sweetness adds depth, while caramel, honey and dried fruit drift softly in. Subtle resinous wood, a whisper of smoke, and a splash of citrus zest lift to a creamy, sun-warmed finish.
Palate
Opulent and warming, this 51% rye whisky coats the palate with a thick, velvety mouthfeel. Apricot brandy cask influence lends orchard sweetness—apricot and dried fruit—paired with bold rye spice: pepper, clove, and ginger. Vanilla and toasted oak mingle with caramel from the new American oak. Sauna-driven maturation heightens resinous warmth, finishing long, creamy, fruity and spicy with a smoky whisper.
Finish
Long and warming, the finish lingers with apricot sweetness entwined with caramel and vanilla from the oak. Spicy rye spice remains, a whisper of smoke, and a final almond-brandy note that slowly fades.
