A cask strength limited edition release for the 2017 Feis Ile of just 877 bottles of the 100% Islay Barley bottling that has seen 7 editions so far.
This is the oldest release yet of the 100% Islay Barley at 8 years old and made up of just two casks, one Ex-bourbon Barrel and a Oloroso Sherry Butt from 2008/2009.
Natural Colour, non-chill filtered and natural cask strength.
A mouthfilling Kilchoman that is very different to the lighter/Bourbon cask influenced 100% Islay releases, the oloroso cask is the ace in the pack here imparting some thicker and richer dried fruit flavours along with some superbly balanced peat smoke.
Kilchoman continue to go from strength to strength and this release is one of the best yet.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with a warm copper glow and a mahogany edge, hinting at sherry-driven richness from the oloroso cask.
Nose
Salted toffee, smoked honeycomb and heather honey mingle with toasted spices, especially clove, and smoked ham. Dried fruit chutney, peppery stir-fry marinaded shellfish, damp leather and raisin.
Palate
Dark treacle toffee, fruit and nut chocolate, followed by a thick wave of smoked heathery peat smoke, with earthy, savoury meat notes balancing the sweetness, a rootsy mushroom nuance, and late spices of cinnamon sticks and clove.
Finish
Smoked rum and raisin fudge, sweet paprika, peppercorns, more fruit and nut chocolate, aromatic peat. Thick and treacly long finish.
