One of the six-strong single cask single malt releases from the ‘new’ GlenAllachie. The capitalised ‘A’ in the middle of the name gives a clue to the distillery’s new owner: Billy Walker, previously of BenRiach (and indeed GlenDronach). Walker bought the distillery from Chivas Brothers last year and, in doing so, set about transforming GlenAllachie from a little-known distillery producing fillings for blends such as Passport and 100 Pipers, into a quality-oriented single malt in its own right.
A core range is set to launch in June but, while we wait for that, there is this initial release of six single cask single malts – spanning the years 1978 to 1991, with two each from 1989 and 1990 in the middle.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with a copper-gold glow, edged by a touch of mahogany.
Nose
Rumbustious Sherry-cask aroma, a veil of blue fruits tangled with bodega funk. Cheese-rind nuances linger alongside old Serrano ham, leather and prune, with subtle nuttiness and a chestnut puree richness. Bold and luscious, the wood leans Sherry-soaked, inviting decanting complexity.
Palate
Broad and richly Sherried, the palate is weighty and opulent, with sherry, coffee grounds, coal dust and liquorice weaving through dark plums and blueberries. A resinous, slightly oily thread holds the texture, while Bourbon biscuit sweetness and a hint of grilled pineapple lift the mid-palate. A delicate sulphur note flickers toward the finish.
Finish
Long, refined finish of dried citrus peel and dark fruits, with a whisper of spice and a resinous sweetness that lingers and gradually fades.
