This is a fascinatingly complex Whisky. Distilled at Caol Ila in 2007, the malt was allowed to develop in character for 15 years before being bottled at cask strength. There is warming concoction medicinal notes; lapsang souchong, spiced blackcurrant and liquorice.

Medicinal notes with liquorice and herbs lingering the background, tar soap, coal and alluring wood smoke.

Palate

Fresh & herbal. Rubbed peppermint leaves, stemmy, damp grass, smoky. Oily, cigar leaves and smoked ham.

Finish

Long, peppery, spicy warmth, smoke.

Caol Ila
(kowel-EEL-ah) Caol Ila was founded in 1846 by Hector Henderson near Port Askaig on Islay’s east coast, overlooking the Sound of Islay between Islay and Jura. Its Gaelic name refers to that stretch of water, and the site was chosen with access to sea transport and a water supply from Loch nam Ban. Ownership changed early, passing to Norman Buchanan in 1854 and then to Bulloch Lade & Co in 1863.
