Distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2022 at 45% ABV, this 13-year-old Caol Ila was released by Gordon & MacPhail as part of the Connoisseurs Choice – Wood Finished series. The whisky was initially matured in refill bourbon barrels before spending around two years finishing in Sassicaia wine casks, a prestigious Super-Tuscan red wine, before bottling. The batch yielded 3,550 bottles.

Colour
Burnished gold that glows into warm amber, with coppery highlights and a wine-warm mahogany edge.
Nose
Dried figs with sweet cured meats and cinnamon spice, while fudge and milk chocolate notes lead to a rich, lingering smoke.
Palate
Redcurrant gives way to subtle black pepper. Red apple comes to the fore alongside lemon peel and toasted oak.
Finish
A medium-bodied finish that lingers with pepper and forest fruits, while a subtle, smoky note threads through the red berry sweetness, leaving a warm, lingering glow.
