About Tamnavulin
(Tam-na-VOO-lin) Tamnavulin opened in 1966 in the village of Tomnavoulin, beside the River Livet in the foothills of the Cairngorms. The purpose-built distillery stands on the site of a 16th-century carding mill, and the old wooden water wheel still appears on the brand’s bottles. After closing in 1995 during the industry downturn, the distillery reopened for testing in 2000, underwent a major refurbishment in 2007, and changed the shape of its stills in 2010.
The whisky is built around a smooth Speyside style, with water drawn from underground springs in the Easterton Hills and spirit first matured in American white oak ex-bourbon casks before a second cask finish. Double Cask, launched in 2016, was the first expression in the current range, followed by the Red Wine Cask Series in 2019 and the Port Cask Edition in 2024.
Tamnavulin is part of the Whyte & Mackay portfolio.
