Tasting Notes

Colour

Rich deep amber with a warm copper-gold glow.

Nose

Sweet orchard fruit mingles with honeyed malt, while vanilla and toasted oak frame the aroma. Subtle spice, ripe pear and apple notes rise above a core of creamy barley, with hints of almond and citrus zest giving a refined, lingering warmth.

Palate

Silky and refined on the palate, this Milford 15-year unfolds from a backbone of soft malt into velvety vanilla and toffee. Orchard fruit notes of pear and dried apricot mingle with orange zest, while gentle spice—ginger and nutmeg—adds lift. Oak-driven tannins cloak the mid-palate and the finish is warm, creamy, with lingering malt and subtle smoke.

Finish

Long, elegant finish of creamy vanilla and toasted oak, with caramelized fruit and gentle spice. The oak lingers warm and refined, slowly fading to a polished, comforting afterglow.

Willowbank was established in Dunedin by the Baker family, with distillation beginning in 1969 and whisky released under the Wilson’s name from 1974. It became the centre of modern New Zealand whisky for much of the late 20th century and was known under several names, including Willowbank, Wilson’s, Lammerlaw and Milford. At the time, it was also regarded as the world’s southernmost whisky distillery.
