A limited Càirdeas release from Laphroaig created for Fèis Ìle 2022 and the Friends of Laphroaig programme, this Warehouse 1 edition was bottled at 52.2% ABV and matured entirely in first fill Maker’s Mark bourbon barrels. The whisky was aged in the distillery’s historic seafront Warehouse 1, where coastal conditions play a key role in shaping the spirit.
The bourbon barrel maturation enhances Laphroaig’s signature medicinal peat smoke, maritime salinity and iodine-rich character, while adding layers of vanilla sweetness, caramelised sugar and gentle spice. Coastal maturation contributes additional briny depth, creating a bold, balanced expression that highlights both the distillery’s house style and the influence of its unique ageing environment.

Nose
Maritime peat smoke leads the nose, braided with iodine and sea-salt brine from Laphroaig’s coastal Warehouse 1. Beneath, creamy vanilla and caramelized sugar sweetness emerge, with a gentle spice. The Maker’s Mark first-fill bourbon casks lend toffee and oak, adding depth and roundness while the sea-side maturation keeps the aroma briny, bold and unmistakably Islay.
Palate
Bold peat and medicinal iodine fuse with coastal brine on the palate, a sea-salt core tempered by Maker’s Mark vanilla and caramel from the first-fill bourbon cask. Vanilla, toffee and gentle spice weave through the smoke, finishing long with briny warmth and a peppery, maritime glow.
