Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep amber with mahogany and copper highlights, a smoky, dusky glow.

Nose

Soft peat smoke drifts over ripe orchard fruit, vanilla and caramel, with toasted barley and cocoa nibs adding depth. A whisper of leather and sea air lingers, shaping a smoky, mellow invitation.

Palate

Silky, medium-bodied and softly smoky, this Nikka blends Yoichi’s peat with Miyagikyo’s fruit. Vanilla, caramel and warm barley cloak the palate, with cocoa and a hint of citrus keeping it bright. The smoke remains elegant and subtle, delivering a creamy, honeyed sweetness and a long, refined ember finish.

Finish

A long, smoky finish that lingers with peat, vanilla and honey, tapering to a soft fruitiness and a warm, mellow fade.

Nikka
Nikka was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, one of the key figures in the birth of Japanese whisky. The company began as Dai Nippon Kaju, with Yoichi Distillery completed the same year in Hokkaido, and the first bottle of Nikka Whisky followed in 1940. A second major milestone came in 1969 with the opening of Miyagikyo Distillery, giving Nikka two very different malt whisky styles to work with and helping define the house’s approach to blending.
