A wonderful blend of the two Nikka single malts of Yoichi and Miyagikyo plus some grain whisky but all at least 12 years old.

Wow what a wonderful whisky and this gives blends a good name and blows the likes of Chivas Regal 18 or Johnnie Walker 18 out the water. Sublimely crafted Japanese blend and no wonder they are sweeping up all the awards!

Tasting Notes

Colour

Golden amber with warm bronze highlights.

Nose

Rich praline and honeycomb lead the aroma, with juicy barley and grapey grain underpinning warm aromatic spices, especially cinnamon; hints of Danish pastries, crème brulee and fig rolls.

Palate

Big, juicy palate with honeyed cinnamon toast, sultanas and raisin fudge; creamy oak and malty grain weave with honeycomb, vanilla custard and cocoa powder, finished by a whisper of peppery smoke.

Finish

A lingering finale of sweet aromatic spice and juicy grape with dried fruit, creamy vanilla oak, and notes of fudge and honeycomb, finished with a subtle kiss of sooty smoke.

Nikka
Nikka was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, one of the key figures in the birth of Japanese whisky. The company began as Dai Nippon Kaju, with Yoichi Distillery completed the same year in Hokkaido, and the first bottle of Nikka Whisky followed in 1940. A second major milestone came in 1969 with the opening of Miyagikyo Distillery, giving Nikka two very different malt whisky styles to work with and helping define the house’s approach to blending.
