Mortlach Generations Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky 75 Year Old · 1939 Vintage
Out of stock
Gordon & MacPhail has unveiled, what it claims might be the world’s oldest ever bottled Single Malt Scotch, a 75-year-old Whisky from Mortlach.
On November 17, 1939, John Urquhart, the first generation of the family to be involved in Gordon & MacPhail, instructed the first-fill sherry cask to be filled with new-make spirit from Speyside’s Mortlach distillery.
Only 100 decanters, bottled at cask strength (44.4% abv), have been released. Twelve have been allocated to the UK.
Generations Mortlach 75 Years Old by Gordon & MacPhail is bottled in a teardrop-shaped Generations decanter. Each decanter is numbered and handcrafted with 75 ‘cuts’. Each cut represents a year of the whisky’s maturation. The decanter sits on a white presentation plinth and is accompanied with two specially designed crystal glasses.
The decanter is presented in a luxury Aniline leather travel bag and is accompanied by a specially commissioned book, ‘Seven Nights with Mortlach’. written by well known whisky writer, Charles Maclean and international author, Alexander McCall Smith who joined forces to tell tales of Scotland, whisky and the people behind this malt. The book contains illustrations from up-and-coming Scottish artists.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with mahogany depth and a warm copper-gold shimmer.
Nose
Opulent, sherry-soaked nose with dark fig, prune and raisin layered over burnt sugar and cocoa. Notes of polished leather, cedarwood and ancient oak deepen, while orange zest, nutmeg and tobacco add spice. A time-honed perfume emerges—luxurious, refined and richly inviting, hinting at the extraordinary age and the quiet, monumental character within.
Palate
Silky, deeply sherried, and remarkably fresh for a 75-year-old. Rich dried fruits—fig, date and prune—sit with velvety cocoa, toffee and espresso. Spices of clove and cedar weave through elegant oak, giving a refined, tobacco-dusted finish that lingers with a warm, resinous undertone.
Finish
An exceptionally long, velvety finish that unfurls with sherry-rich fruit—fig, prune and raisin—welcoming hints of dark chocolate, espresso, and toasted oak. Spices linger in the air: clove, cinnamon, a touch of leather, then a warm, enduring sweetness that softly fades to a refined, contemplative finish.
