The Macallan Speymalt Single Malt Scotch Whisky 40 Year Old · 1970 Vintage
In stock
Gordon & MacPhail have been purveyors of fine goods across three centuries and, over many years, have built up and nurtured special relationships with local producers. Among these are several local whisky distilleries in the Speyside region from whom they purchase new-make spirit to be matured in their own oak casks.
However, there is only one distillery for which they reserve the title ‘Speymalt from Macallan Distillery’.
Established in 1824 and situated overlooking the fishing beats on the River Spey, the Macallan Distillery produces a wonderfully complex spirit, which they then carefully mature in quality oak casks ordered specifically for the ‘Speymalt from Macallan Distillery’ range.
Each bottling carries the vintage of distillation and the year of bottling, capturing an exceptionally mature single malt whisky.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with coppery-gold highlights and a warm mahogany glow.
Nose
An amber, fragrant bouquet of polished oak surrounds ripe dried fruit—raisin and fig—touched by orange zest, toffee and dark chocolate. Spiced with cinnamon and clove, a whisper of leather and tobacco lingers, like a well-worn antique bookshelf, as the Macallan's sherried elegance wafts from the glass.
Palate
Opulent and velvety on the palate, this 40-year Speymalt unfurls layers of dried fig and raisin with dark chocolate, orange marmalade and a touch of toffee. Sherried depth brings cinnamon, clove and nutmeg, carried by satin-smooth oak. Leather and espresso threads emerge mid-palate, guiding a long, refined finish where sweetness lingers alongside warm spice and elegant oak.
Finish
Long, measured finish that unfolds in graceful layers. Rich sherry sweetness mingles with dark chocolate and dried citrus, while toasted oak and subtle spice drift through the palate, finishing with a warm whisper of tobacco and age, leaving an enduring sense of refinement and stature.
