This Single Malt was distilled at Laphroaig distillery in 1996 and aged for more than 24 years in a refill hogshead and then a further nine years in an ex-bourbon barrel, yielding a total of 217 bottles. Saline-yet-juicy and amply intensified by the effects of gentle Islay smoke, this Laphroaig is an interestingly robust dram with a softer side.

Colour
Deep amber with coppery, sunlit highlights and a warm, honey-gold glow.
Nose
Seafood barbecue opens the aroma—mackerel and herring mingle with a saline coastal breeze. A hint of diluted TCP is quickly pushed aside by the juicier scent of grape tomatoes. A just-extinguished tobacco-and-vanilla candle lends a delicate, smoky undertone.
Palate
Coastal salinity lingers, cloaked in sweet, savoury Marie Rose. Fresh mussels kissed with calamansi juice sit beside crusty, ashy bread baked in a wood-fire oven.
Finish
Beachy, hazy smoke with a shadow of stone fruit. Lastly, a creamy banana milkshake stays on, with a touch of Madagascan vanilla.
