Laphroaig Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (1980's Bottling) (1 Litre) 10 Year Old
Out of stock
An old style export only 1 liter bottling from the 1980's before they got their Royal Warrant - It is these old bottling's that really put Laphroaig on the map. A real time capsule of a laphroaig back when some more mature stock and more from sherry casks and a higher percentage of its own maltings stock would have made it into the humble 10 year old. One of my highlights of 2015 was trying a trio of 1970's era standard Islay single malts that simply blow the modern day versions out the water!

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber-gold with coppery highlights and a hint of mahogany.
Nose
Bold peat and medicinal iodine leap from the glass, carried on a coastal breeze. Smoky vanilla and caramel mingle with sherry-driven dried fruits, leather and a trace of cocoa, while sea-salt and maritime iodine linger—an old-style Islay perfume with character and depth.
Palate
Bold maritime peat opens the palate with medicinal iodine and smoky tar, tempered by a whisper of sherry sweetness. Rich barley and oak provide depth, while briny sea spray and peppery spice weave through the mid-palate. The texture is full and slightly oily, coating the mouth as the finish unfolds—ash, iodine, and drying peat with coastal warmth that lingers long.
Finish
Long, peaty finish of medicinal smoke and coastal iodine, a briny echo that lingers, subtle sherry sweetness weaving through the flames, finished with spice and toasted oak.
