Tasting Notes
Colour
Dark burnished amber with copper-gold highlights and a mahogany edge.
Nose
Dry, with an immediate powerful smokiness—much more so than usual with Lagavulin. Charcoal and fragrant peat loom large, backed by a clean fresh base-note of sea air and mineral scents. When water is added, the aroma eases but remains essentially unaltered in character.
Palate
A smooth, lightly oily mouthfeel carries sweet richness; sweetness opens, then lemony acidity and a touch of sea salt lift the palate. Mid-palate the fire dries the fruit, sharpening a salty-smoky intensity. A dash of water rounds and softens, but the smoke remains the dominant, driving force.
Finish
Long, with great waves of peat-smoke and rising new-fired heights of spiced, smoky intensity that linger wonderfully in the aftertaste.
