Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep amber with copper-gold highlights and a sunlit honey hue.

Nose

Opulent vanilla and honeyed toffee rise with creamy coconut and sun-drenched tropical fruit. Bright orange zest and gentle spice sharpen the sweetness, while toasted oak and almond finish with warm, inviting notes, all carried by the bold, cask-strength character.

Palate

Opulent and viscous on the palate, this cask-strength Kavalan unfurls with molten vanilla and caramel from the ex-Bourbon, braided with coconut and toasted oak. It offers tropical fruit richness—pineapple, mango, hints of dried apricot—layered with spice: cinnamon, nutmeg, white pepper. A warm, persistent glow of sweetness balanced by a gentle tannic lift.

Finish

Long, luxurious finish of vanilla custard and caramel, infused with toasted oak and a lively kick of spice. Coconut and citrus peel drift through the tail, leaving a creamy, warming glow that lingers at cask strength.

Kavalan was founded in Yilan County in 2005 by King Car Group and is widely regarded as Taiwan’s first whisky distillery. The name comes from the old name of Yilan and the indigenous Kavalan people. Its first bottling, Kavalan Classic, was released in 2008, and the Solist range followed in 2009.
