A remarkable single cask from the closed Karuizawa distillery, this 39 year old was distilled in 1972 and bottled at natural cask strength of 63.3% ABV from cask number #7038. As a silent distillery release, it represents an exceptionally rare example of long-aged Japanese single malt.
Extended maturation has created a dense, sherry-driven profile, with aromas of dark chocolate, espresso, dried figs and antique oak. The palate is powerful and concentrated, delivering black cherry, treacle, bitter cocoa, roasted nuts and firm spice, balanced by deep wood influence. The finish is long, dry and complex, with lingering sherry richness and mature oak.
