Karuizawa (silent) Spirit Of Asama Japanese Single Malt Whisky (Unboxed) 12 Year Old
Out of stock
A Japanese single malt from the closed Karuizawa distillery, Spirit of Asama was bottled in 2012 at 55% ABV and matured in sherry casks. Named after Mount Asama, the volcano near the distillery, the release was created from selected casks remaining after production ceased.
Sherry cask maturation brings rich dried fruit, spice and oak depth to Karuizawa’s characteristically intense, full-bodied style, complementing the distillery’s dark fruit richness and firm structure. Produced from dwindling stocks, it represents one of the later official releases from this highly sought-after silent distillery.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Dark amber with copper-bronze glow and mahogany undertones.
Nose
Aromas of sherry-soaked fruit: prune, raisin and fig, layered with dark cherry and plum. Spices rise: clove, cinnamon and nutmeg, over a rich oak backbone, with cocoa and espresso shadows. A concentrated, elegant bouquet hinting at the whisky’s depth and 55% intensity.
Palate
Opulent and full-bodied, Spirit of Asama coats the palate with a velvety warmth. Sherry-driven dark fruits—figs, raisins, dates—meet spice (cinnamon, clove) and sturdy oak. The texture is silky and concentrated, with chocolatey bitterness and a hint of leather, finishing long, warm, and finely tannic.
Finish
An extended, luxurious finish where dark dried fruits—prune and fig—converge with baking spices and oak. The sherry influence lingers as a warming, chocolatey echo, with fine tannic grip and a subtle espresso note that fades to a refined, drying finish.
