A Japanese blended malt crafted with the whisky of Hanyu and Chichibu distilleries. Chichibu was founded by the eponymous Ichiro Akuto after the closure of his grandfather's distillery Hanyu in 2000. This expression was blended and bottled at Chichibu in 2010 at 46% abv.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Ripe orchard fruits, including peach and apricot, rise with citrus zest, layered over honeyed toffee and dark chocolate. Vanilla cream and almond weave through polished oak spice, while a delicate sherried richness from Hanyu mingles with Chichibu’s bright malt. A trace of smoke and peppery cinnamon lingers, inviting a refined, multi-dimensional bouquet.

Palate

Silky and layered on the palate, this double distillery malt reveals ripe orchard fruit, honeyed malt, and caramel, folded with vanilla and a touch of oak. Spices and citrus brighten the mid-palate, leading to a long, elegant finish with gentle warmth.

Hanyu (silent)
Hanyu was a Japanese whisky distillery in Saitama Prefecture, north-west of Tokyo, founded in 1941 by Isouji Akuto of the Akuto family, who had been involved in sake production for generations. Whisky production developed after the Second World War, with Hanyu later becoming known for single malt made using copper pot stills in a style influenced by Scotch whisky production.
