This 5-year-old Glasgow 1770 was matured in first fill Wild Turkey ex-Bourbon barrels for 3 years and 8 months before a further 1 year and 8 months in Passito di Caluso hogsheads. Bottled at 57.8% ABV, non-chill filtered and natural in colour, it was released as a two-cask marriage with an outturn of 690 bottles.
The combination of peated spirit and Passito di Caluso casks gives this release a richer, more savoury style than the sweeter profile might suggest at first glance. Passito di Caluso is a rare Italian dessert wine known for notes of dried apricot, candied citrus, honey and herbs, and those casks bring exactly the kind of concentrated fruit and lifted sweetness that can work so well with smoke.
