Colour

Deep amber with coppery glow and mahogany undertones.

Nose

Smoky and reasonably pungent without being overbearing, this aroma carries a gun-flint bite lifting the smoke with crisp mineral brightness, hints of seaweed and sea spray lending maritime depth.

Palate

Round and full, the palate reveals peppery spice with gentle smoke, tempered by saline sea-salt and seaweed; a beautifully balanced, maritime core.

Finish

A dry, spicy finish that lingers with peppery warmth and a maritime bite, leaving a refined saline echo on the palate.

Caol Ila
(kowel-EEL-ah) Caol Ila was founded in 1846 by Hector Henderson near Port Askaig on Islay’s east coast, overlooking the Sound of Islay between Islay and Jura. Its Gaelic name refers to that stretch of water, and the site was chosen with access to sea transport and a water supply from Loch nam Ban. Ownership changed early, passing to Norman Buchanan in 1854 and then to Bulloch Lade & Co in 1863.
