About Amrut
Amrut was founded in Bangalore in 1948 by J. N. Radhakrishna Rao Jagdale, shortly after Indian independence. The company began as a producer of Indian-made spirits before developing into one of the most important names in Indian single malt whisky. Its current main distillery is at Kambipura, around 20 kilometres from Bangalore, and was built in 1987.
Amrut launched its single malt internationally in the UK in 2004, helping introduce Indian single malt whisky to a wider global audience. The brand gained major recognition with Amrut Fusion, which combined Indian barley with peated Scottish barley and became one of the key releases that changed perceptions of Indian whisky.
Production is shaped by India’s warm climate, where maturation happens more quickly than in Scotland and the angel’s share is significantly higher. The range includes unpeated, peated and cask-strength single malts, with a style often built around ripe fruit, spice, oak intensity and rich malt character.
