This Blair Athol was created by marrying together two refill hogsheads of 1998 distillate, then bottling the result after 28 years at a natural cask strength of 52.4% ABV. Limited to 160 bottles, it is a small batch release where refill wood has allowed the distillate to remain front and centre throughout maturation.
That approach suits Blair Athol particularly well. The result is a wonderfully classical style of the distillery, robust, waxy and deeply characterful, with rich maltiness, soft fruits, gentle spice and old-school weight all combining into a whisky that showcases the muscular spirit with clarity and balance.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber-gold with a warm copper edge, a sun-warmed hue that hints at waxy, malt-forward richness and a measured, mature glow from 28 years in refill cask.
Nose
Soft waxes and linseed oil lead the nose, with brioche and camphor lending warmth. Subtle putty and cereal notes mingle with waxy citrus rinds, a vintage, malty invitation.
Palate
Waxes, breads, cereals, olive oil, light grassiness, citrus curd and barley sugar.
Finish
Medium in length, the finish unfolds with strop leather and sandalwood, woven with waxy notes and lamp oil, leaving a polished, old-school warmth that lingers.
