Benrinnes Claxton's Warehouse 8 - Oloroso Sherry Octave Whisky 7 Year Old · 2015 Vintage

Bottled by Claxton’s for the Warehouse No. 8 range, this 2015 Benrinnes was matured in an Oloroso sherry octave before being bottled in 2023 at 7 years old. Drawn from cask C22057, it was bottled at a natural strength of 58.8% ABV, with an outturn of just 58 bottles.

The octave cask is the key detail here. Smaller casks like this can have a much more active influence on the whisky, so even at a relatively young age this should offer plenty of sherried character, with dried fruit, spice and oak pushed further forward than they would be in a more traditional cask. That feels like a good match for Benrinnes, a distillate known for weight and body, giving this bottling a richer, more concentrated style.
