Another great distillery producing meaty charactered malts, Benrinnes is quite popular amongst independent bottlers and appreciated by connoisseurs for it's light, fruity character. This particular cask of Benrinnes was aged in a bourbon hogshead and finished in an Oloroso Hogshead. Rather than going for a "coloured" result, the finishing was kept short to add a magical layer of prunes, sultanas and spices to this already accomplished malt.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Aromas of almonds unfold with quince jelly, creamy custard and gooseberries, then a delicate note of pancakes. The Oloroso finish lends a gentle sherry-sweet undercurrent, heightening the nutty, fruity bouquet.

Palate

Silky marzipan and bitter almonds unfold with tart gooseberries and lemon, finished by a delicate croissant pastry.

Finish

Heather honey, Limonchello, lemon drops and butter.

Benrinnes
(ben-RIN-is) Benrinnes was first established in 1826 by Peter MacKenzie at Whitehouse Farm near Aberlour, on the lower slopes of Ben Rinnes. The original distillery was destroyed by flooding in 1829, with a new site later developed nearby. After early ownership changes, David Edward took over in 1864, and the distillery was sold to John Dewar & Sons in 1922 before becoming part of DCL three years later. It is now owned by Diageo.
