The Balvenie 12 Year Old The 1931 Collection is a limited-edition Speyside single malt created as a modern tribute to the distillery’s remarkable 88 Year Old whisky distilled in 1931. Made from 100% home-malted barley, it was initially matured in American oak casks before being finished in ex-Sherry Bodega European oak butts from Jerez, echoing the style of the historic 1931 cask. Bottled at 47.5% ABV, it was created by Balvenie Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie and offers a classic Balvenie profile of honey, warm biscuit, creamy toffee, barley sugar, ginger, raisins and gentle oak spice.
The 1931 Collection also represents a collaboration with contemporary artist Daniel Arsham, whose work explores time, ageing and material transformation. The distinctive presentation tube uses heavily textured, debossed artwork with copper and verdigris-inspired tones, visually linking the 12 Year Old to the much older whisky that inspired the collection. The result is a release that connects Balvenie’s traditional floor malting and historic sherry-cask maturation with a distinctly contemporary presentation.
